Lagos, Nigeria

Lagos is located in southwestern geopolitical zone of Nigeria, also known as Èkó in the Yoruba language, and also affectionately called 'Gidi' or 'Las Gidi' as a form of slang-by the younger generation, Lagos is a port and the most populous conurbation in Nigeria. Lagos, which means “lakes”, was a name given to the settlement by the Portuguese.
Some rivers, like Badagry Creek, flow parallel to the coast for some distance before exiting through the sand bars to the sea. The two major urban islands of Lagos in Lagos Lagoon are Lagos Island and Victoria Island.

Ikeja is the state capital of Lagos State. The Murtala Muhammed International Airport is in Ikeja. Ikeja is also home to Femi Kuti's African Shrine and Lagbaja's Motherland, both live music venues.

Tourism

CurLagos is primarily known as a business-oriented and a fast-paced community. Lagos has a number of sandy beaches by the Atlantic Ocean a few are Badagry beach, Eleko beach, Elegushi, Alpha beach, Elegushi beach, La Campagne Tropicana Beach Resort, Inagbe grand resort, Eko tourist beach resort, Kamp care beach, Whispering palms resort, Lekki leisure lake, African beach resort. Two of the popular beaches include Bar Beach and Lekki Beach, Lagos has a variety of hotels ranging from three stars to five stars hotels.
Other places of interest include The Tafawa Balewa Square, Festac town, Lekki Conservation Centre, The Remembrance Arcade and the Slave Jetty in Badagry.

The weather is wet and warm for most of the day so plans should be made for appropriate clothing.
Lagos is Nigeria’s economic focal point, generating a significant portion of the country’s GDP. Most commercial and financial business is carried out in the central business district situated on the island. This is also where most of the country’s commercial banks, financial institutions, and major corporations are headquartered. Lagos has one of the highest standards of living in Nigeria and in Africa.
