NgNOG 2024 Workshop Report
The Nigerian Network Operators’ Group (NgNOG) hosted its 2024 workshop at the prestigious Limeridge Hotel, GRA Ikeja-Lagos, offering participants an immersive learning experience focused on optimizing and managing network resources. Over two days, about 20 attendees gained hands-on experience with tools and techniques for effective network monitoring and management.
The workshop followed a structured schedule, blending theoretical sessions with practical exercises to ensure a holistic learning experience.
Participants explored essential aspects of network management, including Linux basics, Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP), and tools like Nagios, LibreNMS, SmokePing, NetFlow, and Cacti. The sessions were complemented by discussions on network documentation using Netdot and advanced tools like RANCID and NfSen.
The workshop featured seasoned professionals from diverse organizations in Nigeria:
Cletus Okolie – AMCON
Adewale Woronti – FUTA
Their expertise provided valuable insights into real-world network monitoring and management practices.
The NgNOG 2024 Workshop covered a comprehensive range of topics designed to equip participants with practical network monitoring and management skills.
Key areas of focus included:
Foundations of Network Monitoring: Introductions to Linux basics, initial server and router configurations, and minimal setup for Cisco IOS-based equipment.
Network Monitoring Tools: Hands-on training with Nagios, LibreNMS, and SmokePing to monitor performance, identify delays, and manage devices effectively.
