ngNOG 2025 Workshop - Cohort 1

The Nigerian Network Operators Group (ngNOG) Training Workshop 2025 is designed to equip IT professionals, system administrators, and network engineers with essential skills in Linux System Administration, Docker Containerization, Portainer for Container Management, and Network Monitoring using SNMP, Prometheus, and Grafana. This hands-on workshop provides practical experience to help participants enhance their technical expertise and stay ahead in the evolving world of IT infrastructure and networking.

Training Requirements

  1. Participants should have a basic understanding of IT infrastructure.
  2. Each participant should have a laptop with internet access.
  3. Virtual lab environments will be provided for hands-on sessions.

 Participants will receive:

  • Pre-configured virtual machines for practice

    5. Docker Compose and multi-container applications

Managing Containers with Portainer

  1. Introduction to Portainer and installation
  2. Managing Docker environments with Portainer
  3. Creating, deploying, and monitoring containers
  4. Role-based access control in Portainer
  5. Best practices for container security

SNMP and Prometheus for Network Monitoring

  1. Understanding SNMP and its role in monitoring
  2. Configuring SNMP on network devices and Linux servers
  3. Introduction to Prometheus and its architecture
  4. Setting up Prometheus for network and system monitoring
  5. Using SNMP Exporter to collect SNMP data

Visualization with Grafana

  1. Introduction to Grafana and its dashboard capabilities
  2. Connecting Grafana with Prometheus
  3. Creating custom dashboards for system and network monitoring
  4. Best practices for monitoring and visualization
